PRESS DELEGATION BRIEFED ON HUMANITARIAN OPERATIONS

A delegation of Turkic journalists visited AFAD's Ankara headquarters to attend a briefing on humanitarian assistance, future projects.

Ankara, 23 February 2015 – A group of 18 journalists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Northern Cyprus, Turkmenistan, Macedonia, Bashkortostan, Dagestan, Khakassia and Tatarstan visited the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) on Monday to receive information on Turkey's humanitarian efforts in the Middle East and the organization's future projects.

In the aftermath of the occupation of Mosul in June 2014, AFAD coordinated Turkey's humanitarian relief efforts to assist hundreds of thousands of displaced people. In addition to providing housing, healthcare and education services to Iraqi and Syrian refugees in Turkey, the agency constructed two refugee camps in Duhok, Iraq. The facilities, whose management has been transferred to the local authorities, currently host approximately 45,000 people. AFAD, furthermore, has delivered 730 truckloads of aid to displaced Yazidis, Turkmens, Kurds and Arabs.
