Turkey Delivers Aid to Central African Refugees 21 December 2016
AFAD humanitarian team dispatched to Chad to provide humanitarian aid to the refugees from Central African Republic.
AFAD team distributed 6500 food parcels to mainly vulnerable groups in the region.
The amount of humanitarian aid equals to $150 thousand.
The Most Generous Country - Turkey
According to the Global Humanitarian Aid Report, Turkey is the 2nd largest contributor to humanitarian relief and “the most generous country” in the world.
Turkey gave the most humanitarian assistance as a percentage of gross national income at %0.37 the report shows.
The report also shows the international humanitarian assistance in total reached $28 billion last year from $25.1 billion in 2014. Turkey's humanitarian assistance makes up %11 of the total aid.
Turkey delivered 2.500 food baskets to Afghanistan’s Cevizcan region under the coordination of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). AFAD Humanitarian Aid Team in Afghanistan held a series of meetings with the World Food Program (WFP) Turkey Director Zlatan Milisic, Deputy Minister of Disasters of Afghanistan Mohammad Qaseem Haidari and the Turkish Red Crescent Afghanistan Delegation to pinpoint those who are in need and analyze humanitarian aid needs in Afghanistan. Refugees from Arakan remain smiling due to aid provided by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). Most recently, theAFAD Humanitarian Aid Team delivered 2 thousand food baskets to the Kutupalong-Balukhali Refugee Camp. Refugees from Rohingya who escaped to Bangladesh after violent attacks by the Myanmar Government and who are nor residing in the Kutupalong-Balukhali Refugee Camp have received more aid from AFAD. AFAD has been offering regular humanitarian aid to those living in this camp. Hopefor Initiative actualised in 2011 in consequence of joint attempt of Turkey, Dominican Republic, Qatar and with the support of United Nations. The first International Conference of HOPEFOR Initiative performed in Qatar in 2011, the second Conference hosted by Turkey under the coordination of AFAD performed in 2012 in Antalya.
