Earthquake Advisory Board
The Earthquake Advisory Board is responsible for identifying policies and priorities so as to ensure protection from earthquakes, mitigate damages caused by earthquakes, suggest post-earthquake activities and carry out earthquake-related researches and studies. Chaired by the Head of our Presidency, the members of the Board consist of a representative from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the Director of the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute of the Boğaziçi University, the Director General of Mineral Research and Exploration Institute, the Head of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), the Director General of the Turkish Red Crescent Association, five members as designated by our Director General from among at least 10 academics working on earthquakes and recommended by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), and 3 members appointed by the Director General from among the relevant accredited NGOs.
* The Board convenes at least four times a year. Moreover, if needed, the Board can convene extraordinarily when called by the Board Chair. The Presidency carries out the secretarial works of the Board.
* Other disaster advisory boards can also be established with the decision of the Council of Ministers with regard to other disaster types.
