Marmara Region Consultation Meeting Held in Bursa 02 June 2018
Seven Region Seven Consulation Meetings program mainly focusing on recent activities and projects are in progress.
Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) delegation headed by Deputy Head of AFAD Hamza Taşdelen met with regional AFAD directors of the Marmara region and discussed recent activities and planned activities.
Following the consultation meeting, participants of the meeting were treated to an Iftar Dinner.
ISTANBUL - Chief executives of the United Nations Children's Fund, or UNICEF, have met in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday for a general review of the organization's global activities and to discuss future plans. The senior delegation included three of UNICEF's four deputy executive directors, Yoka Brandt, Martin Mohwanja and Omar Abdi, in addition to five out of seven regional and program directors and 20 mid-level executives from across the globe. Fuat Oktay, the president of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD) delivered the opening address. Deputy Chairman of Japan-Turkey Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group İchiro Aisawa stated, "We had the opportunity to work more intensively with Turkey in recent years about the fight against natural disasters and emergency planning. Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) gave an Iftar dinner for Syrian orphans living in the Çobanbey district of the Euphrates Shield region. Head of AFAD Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu and a delegation accompanying him along with members of civil society organizations active in the Euphrates Shield region attended the İftar dinner organized for Syrian orphans. The traditional AFAD Iftar Dinner which has been organized every year was held at the AFAD headquarters. The staff of AFAD and their families attended the Iftar dinner. Speaking before the Iftar dinner, Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu expressed his happiness of getting together with the AFAD family on such occasions adding, “We have been working with you approximately for a year. I would like to continue to work with you if Allah permits. I want to thank you and your families for joining me in this Iftar dinner.” Following Dr. Güllüoğlu’s speech, the dinner continued with the recitation of the Quran. Projects concerning introducing New Earthquake Hazard Map and Building Regulations of Turkey to the public were discussed at the first Earthquake Advisory Board meeting of the year.
