Cooperation between AFAD and KKTC Civil Defense Organization is Growing 03 August 2018
“Cooperation in Disaster and Emergency Management” protocol has been signed between the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) Civil Defense Organization.
Head of AFAD Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu and Head of KKTC Civil Defense Organization Erdoğan Çelebi put their signatures on the protocol.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, head of AFAD Güllüoğlu said, "This protocol in general is the continuation of years long support of the Republic of Turkey to the KKTC and exclusively AFAD’s ongoing support to the KKTC Civil Defense Organization in emergency and disaster management.”
Güllüoğlu noted that cooperation in the fields of disaster, emergency and crisis should be prioritized adding that transferring information and experience to another country is very important.
‘Support to Cyprus will continue’
Noting that his authority is ready to share its experience and learn from other organizations, Güllüoğlu stated that Cyprus is an important country for Turkey and its support to Cyprus will continue in every field.
Güllüoğlu expressed his wish that the protocol will develop cooperation adding that he has a dream of a world where people’s awareness about disasters and emergency has increased, and that human beings started to prefer safe environment and safe homes in order to reduce the risk of disasters where there is less harn.
Meanwhile, the Head of the KKTC Civil Defense Organization Çelebi said AFAD has been already providing great contribution the research and rescue team of the KKTC adding that the protocol would make this contribution more official and form the legal base.
Çelebi expressed his wish that the protocol would be a blessing for both parties and thanked Turkey and AFAD for their contribution.
Purpose of the Protocol
“Cooperation in Disaster and Emergency Management” protocol signed between Turkey and the KKTC aims at identifying prior issues requiring cooperation before disaster and emergency takes place, boosting cooperation in this field, carrying out organized humanitarian aid activities according to universal rules and exchanging scientific, technical and judicial information.
