“Volunteering System Cooperation Workshops” at AFAD 04 September 2018
Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Volunteering System Cooperation Workshops aimed at reducing damages to a minimum by coordinating state-civil society- nation cooperation in cases of disasters and emergencies kicked off.
Making the keynote speech at the three-day workshops, Deputy Head of AFAD İsmail Palakoğlu underlined AFAD priorities for volunteers adding that, “With Allah’s permission Relations with Volunteers and Donators Directorate will be opened very soon. Our fellows in the Volunteer Group have been working seriously about volunteering and volunteering system for months”.
Noting that AFAD also prioritizes the support of state offices and institutions as well as nongovernmental organizations, Palakoğlu said, “We, the AFAD, are trying to carry out activities in cooperation with especially nongovernmental organizations, private sector and international agencies. From now on, we will enhance our cooperation.”
AFAD Volunteering System Cooperation Workshops will continue for three days under the titles of “NGO Cooperation Workshop”, “State Cooperation Workshop” and “Volunteering Promotion and Communication Workshop.”
“Disaster Preparedness Plan of İstanbul” workshop where preparations against possible natural or man-caused disasters in İstanbul will be discussed kicked off in Levent. Making the keynote speech at the workshop, Head of Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu emphasized the importance of cooperation. “August 17, 1999 Earthquake Commemoration Activities” themed “Preparedness” were held in İstanbul’s Sultanahmet Square.
