2nd National Landslide Symposium Begins in Ankara 12 October 2018

HEYSEMP-2018 aiming at discussing different angles of landslide disasters organized by the cooperation of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority and General Directorate for Combating Desertification and Erosion. 2nd National Landslide Symposium that began with the keynote speeches of Minister of Interior Affairs Süleyman Soylu, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Akif Özkaldı, Head of Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu and General Director of Combating Desertification and Erosion Ahmet İpek will continue for two days.

AFAD at NATO Consequence Management Field Exercise in Serbia 11 October 2018

The Consequence Management Field Exercise conducted every year by NATO EADRCC (Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center) in countries planned to become NATO members was staged in Serbia between October 8 – 11. Turkey Sets the Table for Arakan Refugees 08 October 2018

Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has delivered a new batch of 2 thousand food baskets to refugees from Arakan who escaped to Bangladesh. Aids from Turkey will once again help Arakan refugees to set their tables. With the last delivery, the amount of food baskets provided by AFAD Humanitarian Aid Teams to the tables of the refugees from Arakan rose to 9 thousand.

AFAD at Disaster Workshop Organized in China 01 October 2018

Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu and AFAD delegation participated in the “Stockpiling For Disaster Aids” orgazined in China within the context of “Heart of Asia: İstanbul Process”. The AFAD delegation visited the Chinese Emergency Management Ministry together with Turkey’s Ambassador to Beijing Emin Önen and had a meeting with the Chinese delegation headed by Deputy Minister Zheng Guoguang. Possible cooperation between Turkey and China in disaster and emergency management issues were discussed at the meeting.

Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu visited the US accompanying President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s the UN 73rd General Assembly delegation The Head of AFAD attended sessions held in order to discuss important issues especially in the Middle East and humanitarian aid operations. First, Dr. Güllüoğlu participated in the Yemen session together with the officials of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

AFAD Displays Its Technological Capacity at the Teknofest 28 September 2018

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) attended TEKNOFEST 2018, Turkey’s first aviation, space and technology festival. AFAD showing its capacity at its 500 meter square larege stand, displayed its technological abilities to the visitors. Technologies such as earthquake simulation, interactive earthquake hazard map and VR (Virtual Reality) were offered to the use of visitors.

Continues to Offer Aid to the People of Arakan 28 September 2018

Refugees from Arakan remain smiling due to aid provided by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). Most recently, theAFAD Humanitarian Aid Team delivered 2 thousand food baskets to the Kutupalong-Balukhali Refugee Camp. Refugees from Rohingya who escaped to Bangladesh after violent attacks by the Myanmar Government and who are nor residing in the Kutupalong-Balukhali Refugee Camp have received more aid from AFAD. AFAD has been offering regular humanitarian aid to those living in this camp. The permanent AFAD team based in the area delivered a total of 2 thousand food baskets to refugees living in the 5th and 10th camps.

Kyrgyz Delegation Visits AFAD 28 September 2018

A Delegation headed by Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs General Director of Information has visited the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). Deputy Head of AFAD Hamza Taşdelen received the delegation and briefed them about corporate history, structure and activities of AFAD. The briefing also included the disaster status of Turkey, structural changes in the disaster management in the aftermath of the Marmara earthquake, Turkey’s international humanitarian aid activities and response to the Syrian crisis.
