104th Term District Governor Candidates visited the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) headquarters within the framework of “Training Program for District Governor Candidates” organized by the Ministry of Interior Affairs. Head of AFAD Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu gave information about AFAD’s operations, structure, capacity and activities to the District Governor Candidates. Following this briefing, Dr. Güllüoğlu made a speech about disaster management and risk reduction at the conference hall. Bosnian Search and Rescue Teams Receive Training at AFAD 17 September 2018

Cooperation between AFAD and the Federal Management Authority of Civil Protection of Bosnia Herzegovina is expanding. Within this context, 30 Bosnian Search and Rescue staff received training at AFADEM. “Basic Urban Search and Rescue Training” took place between September 3 and 14 at the Disaster and Emergency Training Center (AFADEM). Participants received theoretical and practical training on classification of search and rescue activities, INSARAG standards, organizational structure of teams, field management and coordination, debris removal and use of technical equipment during two week training program. Romanian Ambassador Şopanda Visits AFAD 14 September 2018

Romanian Ambassador to Ankara Gabriel Şopanda and Attaché Benai Sali visited the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). Head of AFAD Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu received Romanian Ambassador Şopanda and Attaché Sali at his office. The Romanian officials and Head of AFAD exchanged views about possible cooperation between two countries against disasters and cases of emergency. Romanian earthquake experts accompanying the ambassador stated that they would like to pay a longer visit to AFAD in order to see AFAD’s activities on site.

Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu who was appointed as the Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority in August 2017 is reappointed to the position upon Presidential Decree No. 2018/165 signed by President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Presidential decree No. 2018/165 concerning the approval of appointment was published in the Official Gazette on September 12, 2018 and came into effect.

Dr. Güllüoğlu accompanies President Erdoğan Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu who was a member of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Kyrgyz delegation, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Kyrgyz Disaster Agency. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan flew to Kyrgyzstan with his delegation to pay a state visit to this country and attend the 6th Turkish Council Summit. Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Volunteering System Cooperation Workshops aimed at reducing damages to a minimum by coordinating state-civil society- nation cooperation in cases of disasters and emergencies kicked off. Making the keynote speech at the three-day workshops, Deputy Head of AFAD İsmail Palakoğlu underlined AFAD priorities for volunteers adding that, “With Allah’s permission Relations with Volunteers and Donators Directorate will be opened very soon. Our fellows in the Volunteer Group have been working seriously about volunteering and volunteering system for months”.

Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu hosted Canadian Ambassador to Ankara Chris Cooter and exchanged views about refugees and disasters. Noting that there are 100 different ethical groups in Canada during his meeting with Dr. Güllüoğlu, Cooter said that there have been gradually decreasing migration applications and this fact creates some difficulties.

Holiday Outfits of Arakan Children are From Turkey 29 August 2018

As always, Turkey did not leave victims and oppressed people on their own during the Eid-El-Adha and delivered holiday gifts to refugee children in Southern Asia via the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Humanitarian Aid Teams. Hence, refugee children and students from Arakan who found shelter in Bangladesh received their outfits special to the holiday.
