Humanitarian Aid Trends Panel Held in IDME Expo 01 October 2013

(29 August 2013) Humanitarian Aid Trends Panel held in II. International Disaster Management Expo in Istanbul to discuss the latest innovations in the world relating humanitarian trends. AFAD Head of Information Technologies and Communication Department Yusuf UZUNAY made the opening speech and moderated the panel in which the founder of Al-Khair Foundation Imam Qasım Rashid AHMED, US Red Cross CEO Maria WHITE and Bangladesh Red Crescent Secretary-General Mozhorul HUQ participated. Yusuf UZUNAY briefed the attendees on Turkey’s humanitarian aid missions in Somali and Myanmar at the beginning of his speech. US College Students in Bolu Camp 26 July 2013

US college students are coming to Bolu every year for field camp practice in part of their training. College students who study geology at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T) and have to complete their field practice in order to be graduated. for graduation.Training are being done with the groups of 20 – 24 person groups at the camp built by Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency. The camp is in Mudurnu Taşkesti, Bolu and it is the most preferred one among the camps that were coordinated by SDSM&T in total of 7 locations. 10 Scullery Containers to Viranşehir Camp 26 July 2013

(23 July 2013) AFAD sent 10 scullery containers donated by UNFPA to Viranşehir Temporary Protection Center (TPC) in Şanlıurfa. Scullery containers using solar technology to heat water will contribute considerably to power saving. Ready in 10 Minutes Containers which are mobile can be ready in less than 10 minutes and used by 12 families at the same time. Temporary Protection Centres will be at service to ease the pains of victims faster after a possible disaster in the future.

Turkey Fourth Biggest Donor Country 18 July 2013

(18 July 2013) Turkey was the fourth-largest donor of humanitarian assistance in 2012, according to an annual report released by Global Humanitarian Assistance (GHA). The GHA report launched at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) meeting in Geneva is an annual publication from Development Initiatives on global trends in humanitarian financing. It also provides a snapshot of recent emergencies and their human impact and highlights efforts to strengthen the response to people in crises. The most surprising finding in the report is that Turkey ranks fourth on list with over $1 billion (or 0.13 of its national income). “Turkey is becoming a leading player in the international league table of aid donors according to a new report.” the report says. AFAD, TUBITAK Informatics and Information Security Research Center (BILGEM) and Gebze Institute of Technology (GIT) hold joint workshop on use of informatics and communication technologies in disaster management with the participation of researchers and academics. Director General of AFAD Dr. Fuat OKTAY held bilateral meetings with NATO representatives to discuss the ways to improve the relations between Turkey and NATO.
