AFAD Delivers Medical Supplies to Quake-Struck Afghanistan In the wake of a 7.5-magnitude earthquake, AFAD ships 5 tons of medical supplies to Afghanistan. Kabul, 2 November 2015 -- The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) delivered five tons of medical supplies to Afghanistan, which was struck by a 7.5-magnitude earthquake on 26 October. At a formal ceremony held in Kabul, Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Health Abdulbasir Sarwar expressed his government’s gratitude to Turkey and stated that “the Turkish people have always been on our side.” AFAD’s representatives, likewise, noted that Turkey stands in solidarity with Afghanistan at this challenging time.

Europe Praises Turkey’s Humanitarian Efforts The European Commission’s 2015 Progress Report on Turkey hailed the country’s humanitarian relief efforts, which AFAD coordinates, as ”unprecedented” and ”vital.” Ankara, 11 November 2015 -- The European Commission published the 2015 Progress Report on Turkey to praise the country’s efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Syria and across the Middle East. Noting that the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has created a network of 25 state-of-the-art refugee camps, the rapporteurs described Turkey’s humanitarian relief operation as ”unprecedented” and ”noteworthy.”
