Director General Dr. Fuat OKTAY went to the city of Geneva in Switzerland to attend the Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.
On the agenda of this year’s Global Platform - founded in 2007 in order to develop disaster risk reduction practices with exchange information, sharing of experience between different sectors and actors, better communication and coordination - reduce risks, resistant to share the responsibility for the community and the "Hyogo Framework Action Plan" is to develop.
In earlier sessions held in 2007, 2009, 2011 social participation in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and cooperation came to the fore, and discussed the political and economic solutions for disaster risk reduction. Session in 2011, within the coordination of our Presidency, the names of the then Ministry of Environment and Forests, State Planning Organization,and Governors of Antalya and Yalova ,Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate of Istanbul and Izmir and Turkish Red Crescent Society participated.
This year's session of the Global Platform Dr. Fuat OKTAY as well as experts of our Presidency, Representatives of United Nations, parliamentarians, local authorities, regional and international organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and academics of will participate.
Carried out by the Office of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction and as a result of the period of the session May 19-23, 2013 the establishment of new partnerships in order to strengthening the ISDR movement and the creation of resistant populations worldwide and the adoption of the goals, sharing of informations , initiatives and campaigns , development of new methods is expected
PEER ASSESSMENT MECHANISM WORKS FOR AFAD Member Countries of European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) monitor and assess the implementation of their peers’ Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA). This time Peer Assessment Mechanism works for AFAD which is a member of this forum. The assessments commenced on 30th of November in AFAD Center in which 6 volunteered specialists participated from 4 countries, shall be completed with technical visits to be held in AFAD Bursa and AFAD İstanbul on 11 December.PEER ASSESSMENT MECHANISM WORKS FOR AFAD
Primary school children joined special events at AFAD HQ on the occasion of the 13th October International Day for Disaster Reduction. In line with the Sendai Framework and Sendai Seven Campaign, this year’s theme focuses on "Home Safe Home” Reducing Exposure, Reducing Displacement", reflected from the Sendai Framework Target B: Substantially reduce the number of people affected globally by 2030, aiming to lower the average global figure per 100,000 in the decade 2020-2030 compared to the period of 2005-2015.International Day for Disaster Reduction marked by special events at AFAD
