AFAD participated in the 5th Budapest Process Ministerial Conference “A Silk Routes Partnership for Migration” with a stand including the documents about AFAD’s activities.
Interior Minister Muammer GÜLER visited AFAD’s stand on which booklets related to migration from Syria has attracted great interest.
The 5th Budapest Process Ministerial Conference was held in Istanbul, Turkey on April 19, 2013. The meeting that had a theme of “A Silk Routes Partnership for Migration”, gathered participants from 53 countries and 22 international organizations. Aim of the meeting was to discuss “making policies about migration” and “management of human mobility”. AFAD’s stand that contains documents on migration of Syrians and emergency management, received strong interest from the participants
Pol De WITTE, Belgium Ambassador of Ankara and the representatives of other countries looked at the stand with interest and staff of AFAD gave information to the participants.
AFAD, provides accommodation opportunity above the world standards for approximately 200.000 Syrians and manages continuing human mobility towards Turkey. Migration beyond borders requires presence of flexible cooperation policies among international institutions and nongovernmental organizations at regional and global level. Budapest Process contributes to this collaboration by establishing a transparent and equitable basis for discussion.

(March 18, 2013) The Committee under the presidency of Turkmenistan Deputy Minister of Defence and Director General of Civil Defence and Rescue Operations H.E. Yusup MUHAMMETGULYYEV and Deputy Minister of State Migration Services H.E. Eziz ABDYRASULOV, visited our Presidency through United Nations High Comission on Refugees. (29 May 2013) 9 scullery containers which were provided by Japanese Government and International Organization For Migration (IOM) sent to Mardin in coordination with AFAD. The press conference was held in AFAD for the containers which will give service to Syrian Citizens in Mardin-Midyat Accommodation Center which has been building by AFAD. Director General of AFAD, Dr. Fuat OKTAY remarked that there are 17 accommodation centers in Turkey for the Syrian Citizens, Mardin and Malatya accommodation centers’ construction have been going on. Director General Dr. Fuat OKTAY said that, there are 195.000 Syrian Citizens in camps and approximately 300.000 Syrian Citizens outside of the camps. (3 November 2012) The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission Meera SETHI visited our Presidency and discussed the Syrians taking shelter in Turkey, with our Director General Dr. Fuat OKTAY. Received by our Director General at his office, the IOM committee explained that their visit concerned the Syrians who are temporarily under protection in our country. Also giving information on their global activities, IOM officials expressed that they found very successful the works accomplished by our Presidency regarding the Syrians in our country, and said they were closely following the developments with avid interest, after which they suggested they could work in collaboration.
