Field Exercise under Conference for the Hopefor Initiative 27 March 2013

Within the scope of the 2nd International Conference on the Hopefor Initiative organized on 28-30 November 2012, a field exercise was organized on 29 November 2012 under the coordination of AFAD (Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Presidency), with the participation of the Gendarme Search and Rescue Team Command (JAK), Ministry of Health National Medical Rescue Teams (UMKE), Antalya Coast Guard Command, Afyonkarahisar Search & Rescue Unit Directorate, Antalya Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate Search & Rescue Team, Antalya Provincial Security Directorate, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire-fighter Teams, Kepez Municipality Search & Rescue Teams, The Turkish Red Crescent, Organized Industrial Zone Search & Rescue Team, and NGO teams such as AKUT, GEA, and TRAC, with the purpose of enhancing civilian-military cooperation in disaster response. The drill took place at the old Weaving Factory located within the borders of the Kepez Municipality.
Within the scope of the exercise, the participating teams responded to instances of rescue from high storeys, rescue from debris, rescue from traffic accident, rescue from fire, and Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear (CBRN) events. During the drill, 2 helicopters were used to assess the area affected from earthquake and transfer the rescued victims to hospitals.
After the successful exercise, the protocol committee, accompanied by our Director General Dr. Fuat OKTAY, visited the exercise site and the exhibition stands.
(April 16, 2013) After 7.8 MI earthquake in Iran, Prime Minisrty AFAD prepared to send search & rescue and first aid teams to Iran. In this framework, Van and Erzurum Civil Defence Search & Rescue Directorate, National Medical Rescue Units of Ministry of Health and Turkish Red Crescent. Cooperation between AFAD and the Federal Management Authority of Civil Protection of Bosnia Herzegovina is expanding. Within this context, 30 Bosnian Search and Rescue staff received training at AFADEM. “Basic Urban Search and Rescue Training” took place between September 3 and 14 at the Disaster and Emergency Training Center (AFADEM). (6 - 9 May 2013) The Mosul Committee which consisted of 5 people named Nebil Selim EL MUFTI, Muhammed Vaad MECİD, Ahmed Ziya YUNUS, Emced Abdülgani SALIH and Zine Muhammed NAIF came to Ankara to benefit from AFAD’s experience about Disaster Management.
