Syrian Youths in Turkey Receive Certificate of Proficiency in Turkish 02 October 2013

Prime Ministry AFAD have being coordinated all humanitarian needs of Syrians who had to flee to Turkey from war-torn Syria since April 2011, such as accommodation, health, food, education.
In this context, “TÖMER Language Course” project was initiated to provide Syrian high-school and university students with “Certificate of Proficiency in Turkish” which is necessary for their continuance of education in Turkey.
The first graduates of the Language Course Project which was started with 1700 students and developed with the cooperation of Prime Ministry AFAD, Prime Ministry Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities and UNICEF to receive their certificates of proficiency. Representatives of Prime Ministry AFAD and Presidency forTurks Abroad and Related Communities, UNICEF Turkey Representative Dr. Ayman ABULABAN and the Rector of Gaziantep University Prof. Dr. M. Yavuz COŞKUN will present Certificates of Proficiency in Turkish between 02-03 October 2013 in Gaziantep, Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş to youths who successfully finish their courses.

(April 17, 2013) Evaluation meeting about “Disaster Prevention and Management Project” submitted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was held in AFAD on April 17, 2013. JICA Mission Chief Mr. Daimin HANADATE, representatives of JICA Turkey, Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Health, Undersecretariat of Treasury and Ministry of Development participated in the meeting at which country needs related to the Project were evaluated under the chairmanship of Mehmet Akif DANACI, Head of Planning and Mitigation Department. AFAD PRESIDENT MEETS GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AFAD President Dr. Fuat Oktay has met with academics and students from Georgetown University as part of his visit to the U.S. capital Washington. “Old and established academic institutions such as Georgetown University should exert pressure on relevant authorities to increase their efforts regarding Syrian refugees,” said Oktay during his address to young American students at the meeting, stressing at the same time that Turkey was practicing an open door policy for Syrians taking shelter in the country.AFAD President Meets Georgetown University Students
(January 14, 2014) Prime Ministry AFAD continues to its works to register the large number of Syrians outside the camps. In this context, 3,000 Syrians who had to flee due to the civil war in their countries and found refuge in Turkey received much needed humanitarian relief supplies. Coordinated by AFAD, humanitarian relief supplies consisting of electrical radiator, blankets, beds and sanitary products were distributed to Syrians residing mostly outside the camps in Akcakale and Ceylanli neighbourhoods with the cooperation of Red Crescent and Akcakale District Governorship. (April 18, 2013) Accommodation, food, health and education needs of Syrians in 17 camps in 8 provinces of Turkey are met by the coordination of AFAD. In Syrian camps, ambulatory care service is offered 5 thousand per day on average. So far, 1 million Syrian citizens were treated and more than 3 thousand childbirths were given. In order to contribute to health services provided by AFAD and Ministry of Health, a cooperation protocol was signed with “Saudi Arabia Humanitarian Aid Union for Syria” on September 28, 2012. Within the scope of this protocol, 10 ambulances provided by Humanitarian Aid Union were sent to their regions with a sendoff ceremony. 4 of the ambulances will serve in Sanliurfa, 4 of them will be in Kilis and other 2 ambulances will serve in camps in Gaziantep.
