AFAD ON HIGH ALERT FOLLOWING M7,2 TAJIKISTAN EARTHQUAKE
AFAD’s Search & Rescue crew have been put on high-alert following the M7,2 earthquake in Tajikistan.
December 7, 2015, Ankara / In the wake of a M7,2 earthquake which shook Tajikistan today, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) put an Istanbul-based Search and Rescue crew on high alert in case the Tajikistan government calls for international assistance.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency is the sole competent authority concerning disasters and emergencies, and works like an umbrella organization, collaborating with the Turkish General Staff, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Forests and Hydraulic Works and other relevant ministries as well as non-governmental organizations, depending on the nature and magnitude of the disaster or emergency.

Search and Rescue Team Responds to 1254 Calls in 2015 AFAD’s search and rescue team responded to 1254 emergency cases, including earthquakes and traffic accidents, in the first 300 days of the year.
